Swift dropped the term into one of her live concerts last week – could a stage show be happening?
It started out as a casual reference in a live gig, but could this be the start of a Taylor Swift musical extravaganza?
Last week, Swift took to the stage as part of her ongoing Eras tour, which has now reached Europe for its current leg. During performances of tracks from her most recent album, The Tortured Poets Department, Swift referred to the sequence as “Female Rage: The Musical”..
As it turns out – the casual reference may mean more than first assumed. On Friday night, Swift’s company TAS Rights Management filed an application for the trademark for “Female Rage: The Musical”.
The mark is intended to cover the likes of: “downloadable electronic sheet music”, “musical sound recordings”, “audio recordings featuring music and musical entertainment”, “digital publications, namely, books, booklets and book excerpts, in the fields of entertainment, music and musical entertainment, recorded on computer media” and more.
Of course – this could be a branding exercise for merchandise, but there’s no reason not to dream. Swift’s presence on the stage world has been eagerly awaited. Despite her appearance in the Cats film, Swift’s music has never made it to the West End or Broadway. At one stage, her music was touted to appear in hit jukebox musical & Juliet, but was not present during the final production.
Swift also auditioned for the role of Eponine in the film version of Les Misérables, but did not get the role.
Swift’s tour continues well into 2025, with a recorded version (minus The Tortured Poets Department songs) available now on Disney Plus.
One of the best-selling artists of all time, and one of the defining names of the decade, Taylor Swift has released 11 multi-platinum-selling albums to date including the latest 'The Toutured Poets Department'.
Her efforts have earned her countless awards, accolades and honours throughout her incomparable career, including 11 Grammy Awards – three for which were for Album of the Year, which ties her for the record for most won by an artist.
