The Old Vic theatre has released initial first-look production photos of Matthew Warchus’s much-loved production of A Christmas Carol. *
This year’s festive production stars John Simm (Life on Mars, Grace) as Ebenezer Scrooge, Simm’s first stage role since playing the title role in Macbeth at the Chichester Festival Theatre in 2019.
John Simm is also known for his TV roles including The Master in Doctor Who, and roles in Life on Mars, Grace, 24 Hour Party People, and State of Play.

A Christmas Carol is The Old Vic’s most successful show ever, and is back in 2024 for its eighth season. 66,000 people watched the show at The Old Vic last Christmas alone.
The creative team also includes Set & Costume design by Rob Howell, Composition & Arrangements by Christopher Nightingale, Lighting design by Hugh Vanstone, Sound design by Simon Baker, Casting by Jessica Ronane CDG, and Movement direction by Lizzi Gee. The Associate Director is Jamie Manton.
A Christmas Carol is now playing at The Old Vic, running to 4 January 2025.
Joining John Simm in the cast of A Christmas Carol are Rob Compton as Bob Cratchit, Raffaella Covino as Swing/Dance Captain, Juliette Crosbie as Belle, Jamie Doncaster as Swing, Geraint Downing as Ferdy/George, Kimmy Edwards as Mrs Cratchit, Jenny Fitzpatrick as Ghost of Christmas Present/Mrs Fezziwig, Mark Goldthorp as Father/Marley, Ahmed Hamad as Fred, Julie Jupp as Ghost of Christmas Past, Baker Mukasa as Nicholas/Schoolmaster, Alastair Parker as Fezziwig, Georgina Sadler as Little Fan, Lillie-Pearl Wildman as Jess and Connor Wood as Young Ebenezer.
This year, the role of Tiny Tim is played by Casey-Indigo Blackwood-Lashley, Freddie Marshall-Ellis, Freddie Merritt and Vincent Stone.
